Academia Tica Spanish School is a leading institution of Spanish teaching from Costa Rica with two locations:
- Coronado, a small authentic-Costa-Rican town just outside the capital city of San José
- Jacó Beach, a surf town in the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica
Academia Tica is proud to be one of the first Spanish schools in Costa Rica and one of the longest standing since 1986. We’re a Costa-Rican run business with finesse for quality. This has been recognized with an Instituto Cervantes Accredited Center certification, the most important qualification for schools that teach Spanish as a foreign language.
Academia Tica is also an official DELE Exam Center. We have been officially awarded the title: “El mejor lugar del mundo para aprender español” or “The best place in the world to learn Spanish” by our former student Brian Reid :)
Coronado is the perfect place for full immersion. This is a beautiful quiet, authentic town just outside San José and set at the foot of Braulio Carrillo National Park. It has its own way of life with very warm people and a safe, relaxing environment. Most people will speak in Spanish maximizing the opportunities to practice the language.
The beautiful campus is located about 30 minutes away from downtown San José. This will let you enjoy everything the city offers for cultural immersion and fun. This is also great for cheap and easy travel around Costa Rica since the city works as a transportation hub for the whole country.
Jacó Beach is the best place to satisfy tropical urges, learn Spanish and start surfing (or improve your skills!). The town is dubbed “Costa Rica’s City of Surf” and is one of the most popular beaches for locals and travelers since it is the closest to San José and the international airport.
The town offers a laid back lifestyle with all the attractions and activities of a seaside city surrounded by natural beauty that you can visit and experience. The surf is constant and there are waves for beginners and advanced surfers as well. The Jacó-Hermosa area hosts national and international tournaments including the 2009 World Surfing Games.
I spent 1 week at the Coronado campus and 1 week at the Jaco campus. Both were great experiences. The staff at both schools are amazing. Great teachers, and everyone was very attentive to make sure I enjoyed my whole trip, including seeing other areas of the country. I learned a lot in both areas. Jaco was fun and nice to be by the beach but everyone speaks english, and it is a party atmosphere so not exactly conducive to learning all the time. Still a great experience and wonderful teachers. Coronado is smaller town closer to San Jose. It is beautiful. The school offers free membership to a nearby gym, and the on campus residences are really nice. Overall I would definitely recommend academia tica. They know what they're doing.
In an effort to improve my Spanish, I spent a wonderful 4 weeks studying at the Jacó campus. This is an excellent language school. The classes are small and taught by dedicated teachers. The sessions are divided into conversation and then grammar. Conversation classes centre around Tico culture and a bit of history, Every week you are assigned a new teacher which permits you to hear different accents and cadence. It is evident that the staff enjoys teaching Spanish and meeting people from different cultures. The teachers are patient, kind, funny, and share their sense of community with the students.
Teachers have a lot of passion for teaching. They really care about their students and that is what is important. When you see that in a language school, it makes you feel happy!
I’ve met some amazing people, friends and teachers… and I’ve been to amazing places. I can’t describe it because it has been so much fun! It’s such a beautiful country and the people are so great.
